EJC2006: Sweden to play bronze medal game

Category: - published 2006-07-26 by EFAF

A tremendous explosion of point in the second half when Sweden and Finland fought for the spot in the bronze medal game. 43 points in the second quarter and the swedes were up 27-23 at half time. In second half sweden took charge from the beginning and could finally comfortable win 46-33.

Early in the game finnish QB Ville Vene could run for the first TD of the game on the swedes left side and the first TD of the game went to Finland.

In the second quarter the scores started to come on every drive. Total 6 TD’s and swedish WR Simon Ahlmgren made three of them on passes from the MVP QB Michel Jenmert. The first was a little bit lucky after the finnish cornerback slipped and he could untouched catch the ball in the end zone. But he was not done yet.

But in between Finlands Pekka Rantala scored on a finnish kick off return and a 84 yd TD. Jenmert and Ahlmgren had a nice connection today and the next drive they scored again and the score was 14-14. Finland scored a 42 yd field goal in their drive but just to let Jenmert and Ahlmgren score again. Finlenad fumbled the ball on their next driv and this time it was Andreas Lindh von Vogelsang that got a pass from Jenmert. Finland kept the game alive after a 63 yd run from QB Ville Vene and the score was 27-23 in half time.

If the first half was exciting the second half was not. This because Michel Jenmert him self ran for a TD early and when his finnish colleague fumbled the ball on the next drive and Sweden started to move the ball and the clock was running to fast for Finland. They needed to win by at least 4 points to take the spot in the bronze game.

More and more finnish players started to hang with their heads and Sweden started to run the ball mainly with Hampus Hellemark. He was the guy that finnaly ran for the next TD and on the drive after Philip Minja made an interception for TD and the score was 46-23. The game was more or less over when Finland scored on a safety and a TD in the fourth quarter when Sweden played their second string.

Final score 46-33 and Sweden play for the bronze medal on Sunday playing either Austria or Germany. MVP for Sweden was Michel Jenmert and his 4 passing TD’s, 1 rushing TD, 13-18 for 191 yds. In Finland Pekka Rantala got the prize after his plays on defens, offence and as a returner.
