EJC2006: French speed killed Sweden

Category: - published 2006-07-24 by

France started and ended on top in a penaltilized game against Sweden. The final score was 34-14 after France took command in second half.

France came out and got early a 7-0 advantage after Jeremie Bizet found holes in the swedish defence and the first TD of the game was a fact. Sweden then had several chances to score but the swedish receivers had trouble catching the balls. Besides that Sweden missed an early field goal and had several penelties for technical errors. Also France made a lot of misstakes and had 183 yds in penalties!! This often resulted in good swedish field position but they did not manage to score from them. Instead France through Benjamin Simon made an interception in their own end zone with 1.50 to go of the half. But through a nice trick play Simon Ahlmgren could score and the half time score was 7-6 France.

France set the standard first in the second half and Simon made his second interception for the day and just after that France scored again through Azzdine Bouayach. Half way through the trhird quarter quarterback Paul Durand found french MVP Jeremy Rabot for a 50 yards touchdown. Which he followed up with another six points in the beginning of the fourth quarter just after the french took another interception. So the score was 27-7 and the game felt over but swedish QB Anders Hermodsson him self ran for a TD and also scored the two point conversion and the score was 27-14. But Sweden did not come any closer. They tried an onside kick but it failed and the defence lead by MVP Christen Montclair fought well but no victory was in sight. Instead french QB Durand made a beautiful TD when he untouched ran for 43 yards and all swedish defensive players were on the other side of the field.

France won 34-14 and the Swedish HC Janne Jenmert wasn’t too happy in the press conference after the game. He saw France as a better team then Russia and if his prediction would fall in Sweden and Finland are batteling for a spot in the bronze game Sunday.
