EC 2010: Team France at a Glimpse

Category: European Championship - published 2010-07-18 by EFAF

Since participating in the 2007 World Cup in Japan, Team France has played in 4 friendly contests within Europe, posting a 2 and 2 record. The 2010 squad will feature a mix of new and old, as a core of returning veterans will be shouldered by newcomers to international competition.

Offensively, Max Sprauel is expected to see most of the action at the quarterback spot and will be backed up by Paul Durand and Paul Bresaz Latille. The running backs will once again feature the tandem of ex-NFLEers Sandino Octobre and Laurent Marceline. A constant strongpoint for France over the last several campaigns, the runningback position should be no different this summer as several promising newcomers will also battle for playing time. The receiving corps will be anchored once again by Marc Angelo Soumah who at 34 years old remains a major playmaker in the French championship.
The offensive line is possibly the squad’s most experienced group, almost all having international game experience.

On the defensive side of the ball, a retooled defensive line will feature only two veterans from the last World Cup: Patrice Biyogo and Frantzy Dorlean. They will anchor a group that promises to be the backbone of the defense. Experienced is probably the best way to describe the linebacking crew, as Philippe Gardent, Nicolas Prévost, Cédric Cotar and Arnaud Leprêtre are all back for another competition. France’s secondary will feature a group that, for the most part, has played together since 2008. Three members of the 2007 squad remain: Cédric Lyemni, Nuno Dos Santos, and Aurélien Sempey.
